 shows looming on the horizon

2:35 p.m., 2004-04-05

(this relates to the previous entry. no it was not some mongolian barbecue. i've never heard of such a place, if it even exists. this was called 'fire and ice', and it was a satisfactory eating zone. i was just spouting off, as i am wont to do.)

so yes. two shows coming up. the story is this:

the first one (april 21st) we might be playing only covers, because we have kicked the idea around for awhile now.

(the second one [april 28th] will be just our usual songs played like it was our job.)

we have covered like 15 different neutral milk hotel songs during practice at different times and lavallee (the bassist) brought up the idea of just doing a show of those songs. a couple of them are roughly recorded and placed on our website.

i, however, am unsure of my capability to pull this off. i don't know all of the words to all of the songs and i tend to forget them sometimes, which is why i always have the trusty music stand at my side during practice. i usually end up mixing up verses or something rather than forgetting actual verses of words.

and some of the songs we have chosen add an extra dimension of difficulty because they are unreleased bootleg type songs that have alternate versions that have equally alternate versions of the lyrics which gets confusing when you are in the middle of a song in front of people.

so i don't know. i'm still on the fence about this one.

we weren't actually going to tell anyone that it is going to be a show of all covers, and have it be a surprise. but now that i doubt myself being able to get all of the structures and verses and everything set in my mind within the next couple of weeks it might be a moot point.

we'll see.
